Roberto Martinez is set to step down from his role as Belgium head coach after Beligiums exit from the Qatar FIFA world cup

Roberto Martinez has  announced he will not renew his contract after Belgium’s 0-0 draw with Croatia confirmed their elimination from the world cup.

Led by Martinez, Belgium placed third in Russia 2018, their best finish ever in the FIFA world cup.

They were knocked out by Italy in the quater-finals of. Euro 2020 as they failed to build in the success of the 2018 world cup.

The Belgium team arrived Qatar ranked second in the FIFA rankings. However, but a shock defeat to Morocco and a goalless draw against Croatia saw them eliminated in the group stages for the first time since 1998, having scored just one goal

The Belgian FA released a statement an hour after their World Cup exit paid tribute to the departing manager but laid bare their disappointment with their performance in Qatar.

It reads: “We are extremely disappointed after the early exit of our national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar because we have failed and thereby let down the people of Belgium who supported our team all the way through.

“An era and a cycle have come to an end. Today the ways of our coach Roberto Martinez and the Royal Belgian FA will part.

“We are very grateful and proud that we have worked with Roberto Martinez for more than six years.”

LUKAKU WASTEFUL AS BELGIUM CRASH OUT OF FIFA WORLD CUP IN QATAR

Belgium need just one goal to progress to the round of 16 of the Qatar FIFA world cup Romelu Lukaku was called upon and he failed to deliver the goods  against Croatia. Lukaku missed four clear chances to score.

The first was the biggest chance and he goofed it, the second would not have counted as the ball had gone out of my play, the third, a rebound from close range, the fourth, a post struck.

The Belgian decided to chest the ball down with the goal keeper beaten and the chance went begging. Lukaku was evidently low in confidence.

He was devastated at the end of the match even as Thierry Henry tried to console him.  having played only half an hour of club football since August, without doubt he was match rusty and some might say he shouldn’t have put in that situation in the first place.

The Belgian team were so  disjointed throughout the tournament  that it is impossible to imagine that Lukaku’s misses cost them any qualifications to the next round. Even so, this is one match will like to forget

Romelu Lukaku broke the dugout window after Belgium crashed out of the World Cup.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Costa Rica 2-4 Germany: Germany are Eliminated

Germany are out of the FIFA world cup group stage after suffering the same fate in Russia in 2018.

Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 but crash out of the World Cup at group stage again; Japan’s 2-1 win over Spain sees the Germans exit the tournament early on goal difference; Japan go through to last 16 as Group E toppers, while Spain finish as runners-up after night of intense drama.

With one loss and a draw, Germany had only one point from their opening two games. The four-time world champions knew only a victory at Al Bayt Stadium on Thursday night would give them any chance of progressing to the last 16.

But despite securing the result they needed, Japan scored a controversial winner to beat Spain and send Hansi Flick’s side out of the tournament due to the Spaniards’ superior goal difference.
